Ministry Teams meet once a month, on the second Tuesday of the month, at the same time. Ministry Team night begins at 6:00 p.m. with a meal for all team members and their families. From 6:30-6:50 p.m. one of the pastors reminds everyone of God’s promise in Jesus through hymn singing, bible study, and/or information sharing. From 6:50-7:00 p.m. each team gathers around a table to share highs and lows. This is a critical part of the Ministry Team night agenda. It is a way to share Christ’s immediate presence with each other. Then, from 7:00-7:50 p.m. teams get to work on their agendas, which has to do with promoting hospitality and generosity in all activities. At 7:50 p.m. each team checks in with all the other teams by reporting on the work they’ve done. It completes a vital communication loop.
Communication Loops:
Open, honest and frequent communication is critical to our mission and vision. It helps maintain a healthy congregation. Communication loops need to overlap in order to cover the entire congregation. While ministry team night and council meetings are open to members of the congregation, another important communication loop is the monthly newsletter, the Insight, and the weekly bulletin, the Update.
Role of Council Members:
A council member’s role is to make sure that everyone on the ministry teams knows the church’s mission. The council member talks about the vision and mission at every opportunity. When someone asks, “What is Ascension all about?” the council member can tell them, Ascension is about hospitality in the name of Jesus Christ for everyone.
