Grace and Gifts Small Group

On the first weekend of the month, members of the Grace& Gifts Home Communion Ministry pick up communion kits to distribute to members who are not able to attend Saturday or Sunday worship services.
Delivering of the Sacrament to the homebound and the sick by lay ministers has enjoyed a long tradition in the church. The early church father Justin Martyr writes that the Presider blessed the sacrament and the deacons would distribute the bread and wine to those present and to those absent. Believers would also take a portion of the bread home to be shared with families over the course of the week. The sharing was intended to reach beyond the physical limits of the community’s worship space.
“Grace and Gifts” members receive homebound communion assistant training and serve Communion once a month to individuals who request it. The primary goal for the group is to deliver the Holy Sacrament to those, who due to various reasons are not able to regularly attend worship within the walls of Ascension. Through the Holy Sacrament, we receive forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. Small group members also serve as a bridge between home and congregation, by sharing news of congregational life and physically demonstrating a connection with the worship community.
“Grace and Gifts” Small Group meets bi-monthly to share in fellowship and devotional time. If you are interested in receiving communion in your home, or in the “Grace and Gifts” small group ministry, please contact a Pastor.
