Wedding Policy Survey
January 13, 2016
Dear Members of Ascension Lutheran Church,
During the past several months our congregation has been engaged in prayer and discernment about our wedding policy regarding same gender marriage. The Council and pastors have offered a video Bible study by Bishop Dave Brauer-Rieke of the Oregon Synod on Hope, Homosexuality, and Hospitality, which challenges us to consider the historical context of Biblical passages relating to homosexuality. Then a world café discussion, which included case studies about how other congregations have responded to these questions, was offered. Finally an ongoing blog discussion by members of Ascension is available on our congregation’s website.
Two other factors enter into our considerations: the Supreme Court decision that legalizes same gender marriage and our congregation’s commitment to be a House of Hospitality.
The Congregation Council would like to know members’ views on Ascension’s wedding policy. Please follow this link and take a one-question survey that asks you to indicate the extent to which you agree or disagree with the following statement: “Ascension Lutheran should permit weddings in its facility for same gender couples.”

The survey link can be used by each confirmed member of Ascension in your household. The results of the survey are anonymous and will be reported in Ascension’s newsletter, The Insight. Please complete the survey by January 20th.
Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts on this important question.
